PAX West 2025

29 08 2025

Another year at PAX West 2025, this year you lose track of time because there’s just too much to see, play, and geek out over. Here are the big highlights that stuck with me:

One of my favorite moments was watching a live team match in the arena. Seeing squads coordinate in real time — calling out plays, adapting strategies — is like watching a perfectly executed block of code run without a single error. It’s inspiring, and it makes me want to bring more cooperative mechanics into my own projects.

I made a beeline for the Borderlands 4 demo, and wow — Gearbox has somehow turned the dial past 11. The gunplay felt tighter, the humor sharper, and the new procedural weapon mod system is going to keep loot goblins like me busy for months. I may or may not have spent half my demo time just swapping scopes and elemental mods to see what kind of ridiculous combos I could create. Also watching the destruction area of the booth, where people can go inside a sound proof room and destroy stuff is kind of odd.

Overall it was fun checking out the new stuff. Hopefully I can get the game done so I can try to get a booth there next year.
